Aurora Children’s Playhouse returns this summer with fun for all ages

Ticketed performances at the Lawrenceville Lawn Amphitheater for family-friendly entertainment

Aurora Theatre offers cooped up kids a chance to get out and celebrate the return of Aurora Children’s Playhouse sponsored by Metro WaterproofingThe Gwinnett County theater invites local families to special shows by the best performers in the region. Starting June 16 at the newly renovated Lawrenceville Lawn stage, experience the thrills of Big Thinkers Science Exploration, Manga African Dance, juggler and stuntman Todd Key and musical guest Havana Son. The weekly Wednesday performances begin at 11 a.m. and are perfect for children on summer vacation, local summer camps and daycare organizations. The shows are ideal for preschool through elementary school ages and run about 45 minutes in length.

Big Thinkers Science Exploration will make theatergoers feel the force with a spectacle of science. Be amazed as entertainers explore the whirring world of physics through defying gravity and levitating water. Experience “skateboard science” to gain a new perspective about inertia and observe awesome flashes of heat as performers convert energy from potential to kinetic. This PHYSICS show is PHABULOUS!

Experience the pulsating sounds of Sunu and the traditional festival music played by the Malinke people of Guinea and Mali. This performance will transport children to the villages of West Africa, where popular American dances such hip-hop moves and the Charleston were born. Founded in 1990 Manga African Dance has preserved, presented and taught indigenous African cultural arts through dance, drums, fashion, drama, songs, crafts and more.

Todd Key is an extraordinary talent with amazing skill in the art of juggling. A legendary fixture at Renaissance Festivals as a part of the act The Zucchini Brothers, Todd will host Cirque Du Todd for children and families. Imagine: a man balanced upon a small, thin board, performing rope tricks, interacting with the audience and juggling the TEN MOST DANGEROUS OBJECTS IN HISTORY! Cirque Du Todd does it all while maintaining a patter that will keep audiences laughing so hard tears will come to their eyes!

Havana Son transports the audience to the tropics without a passport through a musical journey. Children participate by singing, clapping, dancing or playing percussion instruments. Their musical itinerary includes stops in Cuba, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Panama and Puerto Rico, as children sample each country’s unique sounds and rhythms. Kids will have fun and learn about the cultures of different Latin American countries at the same time.

Performances for Aurora Children’s Playhouse Summer 2021 will take place at the Lawrenceville Lawn located at 210 Luckie Street, Lawrenceville, GA, 30046. The Lawn has its own parking. There is also a parking deck located across from the Lawn at 225 Luckie Street. Both are free. Events at the Lawrenceville Lawn are located outdoors so attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather; seating is general admission on a first-come, first-serve basis. Groups of 10 or more are eligible for a special group discount. Anyone can purchase a PlayhouseTix punch card that has 10 flexible admissions for just $50 and it never expires.
