Stone Mountain Park - Pumpkin Festival

Play By Day, Glow By Night

By Maria Vargas, co-publisher Lawrenceville Macaroni Kid October 2, 2019

The Pumpkin Festival at Stone Mountain Park has truly captured the spirit of imagination with their whimsical Storybook friends and my most favorite season of all, Fall. Between all the activities available during the day and the attractions at night, you better come down and plan to stay the whole day. So, let me delve in and tell you all about what the Pumpkin Festival has to offer this year.

Pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins ........ If you wanna see them, you have come to the right place. I have never seen so many pumpkin decorations in my life. I particularly liked how they incorporated pumpkins into storybook scenes. At the ticket booth, they will give you an extra pamphlet describing in nursery rhyme format,  the nine scenes you will encounter inside the park. From The Enchanted Forest to The Wonderful Pumpkin of Oz, you are sure to fall in love with one of them. I would even make this into a game with the family and see who spots one first. You could also say the nursery rhyme and see who can guess the storybook title in pumpkin pun style.

Regardless if you come during the day or at night, rest assure that the following attractions will be happening:

  • Stories by Mother Goose
  • Storybook meet and greets
  • Pie eating contest
  • Parades
  • Games
  • Dancing Parties

Because the weather this past week was a little too hot for our taste, we decided to enjoy the Glow By Night theme on this day.  Apart from the ongoing attractions all through the day, I did notice that there were some extra things happening at night. One of the extra things to do is The Mad Hatter's Costume Contest; which starts at 6:30 pm. Not only do you get a special entrance discount to the park for coming in costume, but you also might get chosen to participate in the Enchanted Glow-In-Parade. Another thing to do is The Three Little Pigs Runaway Train from 7-9:00 pm. And lastly, there are Lightning Bug Flashlight Tours from 7-9:00 pm in the MEGABugs exhibit. Side Note: Be sure to check out the MEGABugs Exhibit before it closes down on November 10th.

My family and I are repeat Stone Mountain Park goers and we really enjoy this time of year. On this day, we also played putt putt and watched The Wizard of Oz in 4D. The movie was so cool! And to close off the fantastic night; while chomping down on the pumpkin flavored ice cream, we also got to sit and enjoy the Lasershow Spectacular. Did you know that the Lasershow Spectacular is running till October 19th. Don't miss this!

Readers, it is so worth spending the day at the Pumpkin Festival. Make some memories and enjoy this Fall Season at Stone Mountain Park. Happy Fall Y'all!
