In the quaint Downtown of Lawrenceville, there lies a a little gem of a store named “Nancy’s Candy & Spice”. Owners, Nancy and Hashem Abuaisheh, have served this community for seven years with their unique store that offers products for those who love food.
While visiting Nancy's Candy & Spice, I met with Nancy who explained the array of products she carries in her shop. Readers, the variety of spices and all other items were impressive. I also took delight in the fact that I can buy a small amount of spices for a special and/or new recipe. I don't have to commit to a full jar of that expensive turmeric (Ha, take that!) Plus, small amounts simply ensures I get the best potency of spices. The other benefit of buying in small amounts is that I save money and don't overfill my cabinet with spices that won't see the light of day until I inadvertently find it and wonder why I have it in the first place. I'm sure some you can relate (*chuckle*).
And don’t let the name of the store fool you either. Nancy also sells loose leaf teas, dried fruit, assorted nuts, chocolates, olive oils and vinegar. Nancy is more than helpful and will let you sample almost everything to ensure you leave happy with your purchase. You can create your own spice blend and fill a bag with all sorts of sweet treats! Also, if you want to know how something tastes, you get free samples and suggestions of what to cook with it. Nancy has a greens seasoning that pops in your mouth that is recommended to use with anything green.
And right before I left, I picked up cooking kit of Nancy’s very own Pomeglant recipe. Pomeglant being a play of the words of pomegranate and eggplant. The kit includes an oil, vinegar and spice specially selected from their store. The recipe is included with this article. Readers, the recipe was delicious!
