BEAUTY SHOULD BE GOOD FOR YOU!

Gone are the days when you had to choose between your health and beauty products that work.

I try to live the healthiest life I can. I buy organic food when possible and try to avoid processed food altogether. A while back, I threw out all of the toxic cleaning products that I had been using and replaced them with more natural cleaning products.

But about a year ago, I started hearing more and more about the toxic, carcinogenic ingredients in makeup and most skin care products. So, I started researching for healthier options.  I was looking for products that would be the most effective and least harmful to my skin.

I discovered that what you put on your body is just as significant as what you put in your body. Your skin is your largest organ and since it is very porous, it absorbs over 80% of whatever you put on it. Many studies have found that your face is several times more permeable than your body surfaces, making it that much more critical to be so cautious of the products you use daily. I mean really, does it make any sense to put to dangerous chemicals on your lips and eyes??

I tried a lot of products. Some were okay, but frankly, most were disappointing. What good is a natural shampoo, if it doesn't get your hair clean... or even worse, dries it out? Who wants to use a face cream or soap that smells awful or leaves your face feeling greasy? Yuck!

I had almost given up when my daughter told me about Beautycounter! At last, products that are organic and healthy and actually work! Plus they feel so luxurious on your skin that you would swear they came from a high-end boutique.

Beauty Counter was started by a mom who like me, was concerned about the sunscreen, soaps, and shampoo she was putting on her kids as well as herself. She discovered some shocking information. There are over 1,400 chemicals and ingredients that are banned from personal care products in Europe. Guess how many are banned in the United States? Only 30!!  The United States has not passed a federal law to regulate the ingredients used in personal care products since 1938!

There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don't have any safety data. This is particularly true of those used in the skin care and beauty industry. She found out that companies are allowed to use harmful ingredients and make their own judgments about their safety.  What's worse is that the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics in the United States) does not have the authority to remove harmful ingredients from the products we put on our bodies and on our kids' bodies every single day, day after day.

I find this alarming and so did she. So, she decided to do something about it. She started Beautycounter and banned more than 1,500 ingredients from their products, setting a new health and safety standard. She felt that we all deserve better and made it her mission to make the world healthier by producing safer products you can trust.

I love the products so much that I even became a consultant. I wanted to do it because I absolutely agree that beauty should be good for you! And for your kids! I use SO many of the Beautycounter products and can personally vouch for the fact that not only are they safer, they are LUX and EFFECTIVE! I use everything from Shampoo to Skincare to Makeup. I also love that because they are so concentrated and have fewer fillers, you use less and they last a long time.
