The second day of our trip we had the pleasure of experiencing Rock City and Ruby Falls. If you are going to Chattanooga, then this is probably the reason you are going and if not, then you must add it to the trip! All the way on the top of Lookout Mountain is where we started our adventure. The views up there are AMAZING. I was surprised to see that there were actually people living up there. I expected something along the lines of Kennesaw Mountain. It's so cute on top of Lookout Mountain, all the streets have a fairy-tale name. But let's get back to Rock City. You walk along the enchanted trail viewing the various rock formations and hundreds of native plants.
It feels so good walking between the rocks. A natural air conditioner that makes it a pleasant walk.
You may have to squeeze a little to fit through some of these areas.
But the view at the top is worth it!
To get here though, you not only have to squeeze a little, but you'll also have to walk over this bridge
Okay, I kid. You have an alternative route, still a bridge, but much short in length and a tad more solid. Once you are at the top you are at Lovers Leap. As the story goes, there was a young native american woman and young native american man who were in love but were from two different tribes. The two tribes were rivals and their love was forbidden. The young lady's tribe took the young man and threw him off the cliff, and she went after him. Hence the name, Lovers Leap.
You also pass through this beauty to get there.
Once atop, you get a panoramic view that you have to see in person! And, you can also see seven states from the top of Lookout Mountain. At least that's what the sign says. ;)
On the Terrance. Again, the view is absolutely beautiful! I could have stayed there all day, it felt very serene.
Once you visit the top you can head back down, but not down the way you came. You'll be center in a fairy-tale dream. With gnomes and all of Mother Goose's characters too see.
On your way out you can stop by the gift shop and get a See Rock City bird house or even candy in the Fudge Kitchen. They have several activities throughout the year, so don't think it ends when it starts to get cold out. I'd personally love to return to Rock City in the winter and roam around their Enchanted Garden of Lights. You have to visit Rock City at least once! Again, they have other ways to experience it throughout the year, but at least once is a must! It's breathtakingly beautiful and a great way to get the kids moving and enjoying mother nature.
Tickets for Rock City are $19.95/Adult and $11.95/3-12 year old child. You can get a discount if you are purchasing tickets for Ruby Falls as well. Ruby Falls is right down the hill from Rock City, so it's definitely doable for a day trip.
Remember to wear comfy clothes, shoes and take water and a snack with you to save some extra cash. Pay attention to the weather as well, as this is something you want to see on a clear beautiful day.
