REVIEW: WIKKI STIX

Product Reviews

By Angie Appoo, MacKidAngie July 30, 2013
This is one of the hardest reviews to write because there are a million things I can say about Wikki Stix. It's such an amazing product.

If you're not familiar with Wikki Stix - Wikki Stix are made of hand-knitting yarn enhanced with a microcrystalline food-grade, non-toxic wax, the kind used in bubble gum and lipstick. They do not contain latex, gluten, nor peanut or other nut oils or byproducts which makes them an ideal creative activity toy for children with allergies. They are twistable, stickable, buildable, playable, unbreakable, mess-free that can equal HOURS of SAFE fun in the home, in the car, at restaurants, and at school.

There are over 60 products and packages you can order with different activity kits and Wikki Stix colors. I recently received a Multi-Sensory Resource Packet.  Wikki Stix are great as an educational tool, and is perfect for developing fine motor skills, non-verbal expression, kinesthetic learning, quiet fidget tool, and for the visually impaired. The package I received had 144 Wikki Stix in recommended colors for the spectrum of disorders (soft soothing shades that are easy to work with, as well as brown, white and gold to provide strong contrast colors for the visually impaired), a Resource Manual, 6 Activity Cards, a Grid Board, and a Therapy Bag Bonus Unit. Everything was reusable.

Enclosed was also a flyer showing a few ways to use Wikki Stix for a variety of special needs - but I found many of the ways were very useful to kids in general. One of the ways listed was to Zip it Up! Thread a Wikki through the hole on the zipper and twist. Easier to pull up and down with the tactile Wikki to hold onto.
Wikki Stix has endless uses. Some household uses for WIkki Stix include: tie snack bags shut, open hard-to-open jars by wrapping a Wikki Stix around the top and unscrewing, and for us adults, wrap Wikki Stix of varying colors around the stem of wine glasses to distinguish owner.

My daughter and her friends (one who is autistic) had fun making creations using the Wikki Stix. Below are images of some of their creations. After playing, clean-up was a breeze for them, and they are already talking about a repeat playdate to make more Wikki Stix creations. They of course want more varying colors, so I think I will get the Classroom Pack that has 600 Wikki Stix with assorted colors (neon, primary and earth tones). There's even a package with 3,000 Wikki Stixs which may be great for a party, group, or large family.

This is one purchase you will not regret, and your kids will not tire or outgrow playing with them. As mentioned they are great for use at restaurants, but also at doctor's office and anywhere where there's a waiting time that gets kids antsy. It's great for car trips too, whether a short ride or a road trip, it's sure to keep them entertained and keep your car mess free. I would imagine it's great for use at hotels or family members home too during downtime on vacations. It will offer lots of fun and losing or forgetting a few here and there won't be an issue since so many are in a pack as well as they can be easily and affordably reordered online at the website or at participating retailers. My kit came with a great storage container, a zippered pouch, but they fit easily in many containers, including ziplock bags or plastic pencil cases - easy to store in the car, or in your purse.
