One of Georgia’s greatest events, JapanFest, is a one of a kind Japanese festival, celebrating 27 years, that incorporates culture, education, food and martial arts. This festival is designed to promote understanding between Japanese and American citizens. It will be held September 21-22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Convention Center in Gwinnett Center

JapanFest features over 50 exciting performers, with performances ranging from popular Japanese music, dance, puppetry arts and martial arts. Popular  Japanese goods include kimono outfits, Japanese tea, dolls and rice paper. The Japan-America Society of Georgia will have t-shirts and temporary tattoos. The Ginza-dori, organized by the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Georgia, will feature Japanese ceramics, traditional Japanese clothing, Japanese accessories and Japanese toys. The Georgia Japanese Language School will sponsor the Bazaar event on Sunday that will provide Japanese books and household goods. 

The festival hosts two days of Japanese workshops and seminars, the most popular from last year include Traveling to Japan, Japanese food and Japanese language. 

JapanFest will have an assortment of the best Japanese food from local Japanese restaurants in Atlanta. This year’s festival has the largest number of food vendors, including more than 10 local established restaurants providing roll sushi, bento boxes, ramen noodles, takoyaki, shaved ice, curry rice, yakisoba, torikaraage and more. 

JapanFest offers a section just for the kids. Children can learn how to make their own Japanese tops and Japanese kites. They can also participate in carrying the o-mikoshi, a traditional Japanese portable shrine. A shopping arcade will also be available for children to enjoy an assortment of Japanese games and activities such as ring toss, water yo-yos and more. 

Tickets are $8 for adults and children six and under are free. Teachers can bring their students to JapanFest for free by applying online. Larger organizations can get a discount by purchasing ticket packages in advance. JapanFest is also in need of volunteers. JapanFest will be held on September 21-22 at the Convention Center at Gwinnett Center located at 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway, Duluth, GA 30097.
