Why Toddler Time at Legoland Discovery Center is the time to go

By Ashley Blegen September 23, 2016

When I heard that I was going to have the opportunity to take my kids to Legoland in Atlanta I was very excited but also nervous. I wasn’t sure if this would be something that my young kid would enjoy going to since legos are usually for older kids because of their small shape. Even with my hesitation I decided that we would try it out and if it turned out to be something we didn’t like I decided it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.

We showed up just in time for toddler time, 10 am on Tuesday morning, and we were greeted by smiling faces of the Legoland front desk workers. One took us inside to a carpet for the start of toddler time. Both of my kids were given a bag of legos to make different types of animals. This activity was one that required more patience than either of my two toddlers were able to have while being surrounded with so much fun, so they did not last long. My three year old made one of the animals while my one year old made none before they both got up to start exploring.

Although both of my kids did not pay much attention to the toddler activity I think that if they had been a little older or had had more experience with legos, they would have been more engaged before wanting to get up and play. Even with not liking the activity we still had a lot to do since we were then able to explore the whole of Legoland.

One of my daughter’s favorite parts of Legoland was the Merlin’s Apprentice ride. This ride is like the Dumbo ride at the Disney theme parks. Going up to the ride I was told that I would need a second adult to sit with my daughter so I was automatically disappointed because I was there alone with my kids, so I thought we would not be able to go on the ride that my daughter really wanted to go on. Then the worker who was running the ride told me that it was ok if I didn’t have a second adult because they would call someone to ride with my daughter. I was so thrilled that they were so willing to help myself and my kids out. All of the employees at Legoland were so helpful and nice and I could tell that they all really enjoyed working there.

My son’s favorite part of Legoland was their Lego Build and Test. This area was all about building your own car and testing them out. He was able to find some wheels that were already put together and he spent probably a good 30 minutes, a third of the time we spent at Legoland, racing the wheels down the raceway ramp. The raceway ramp was so fun because you placed your car/wheels at the top of the ramp and pressed a button which started a countdown from three. Once the countdown was finished the bar in front of the cars would drop and you watched to see who won.

My favorite part of Legoland was the 4D movie. Wind blew in our face, it snowed in the theater and a dragon sneezed on us! I brought my one year old into this 20 minute movie thinking he was going to last maybe two of those minutes but he surprisingly lasted a good 15 minutes before getting up and wanting to go, he has never been one to sit in front of a screen. I think I had just as much fun watching this movie as my kids, there was one point where I jumped out of my chair as high as my three year old did.

So why should you visit Legoland Discovery Center of Atlanta for toddler time? You will save money. The toddler time tickets are about a dollar less than the regular admission tickets. Your toddler will get to enjoy even more of Legoland through guided building and story time as well as everything else Legoland has to offer. Finally, my favorite reason for going to Legoland during toddler time was that my kids and I were there with only a handful of other people so I felt more comfortable letting them wander a little bit or setting my bag down for a few minutes so I could join in on their fun.

So what is stopping you? Look at your calendar and take your toddler to your next free Tuesday morning at 10 am and you won’t regret it after seeing the joy that will be in their eyes and all of their faces.
